Extraposition in learner and expert writing

چکیده

Abstract Subject extraposition (e.g. it is important to remember ) generally considered be a formal construction that learners, whose writing often said overly informal, have been found struggle with. This study investigates what extent register and text type can used explore learners’ reportedly “informal” use of this construction. Learner compared expert from several different registers native-speaker student writing. The results show there are differences across both types. Furthermore, while the most like experts’ academic writing, certain similarities non-academic were also noted. additionally suggest earlier claims about informal status learner seem mainly influenced by types included in corpora previously investigated.
